Time travel has always been a fascinating topic and when it touches our normal lives, it comes with a lot of surprises. After all, who doesn’t want time to travel to meddle with our lives to fix something that we want to undo? So, here is a list of few such movies with mysterious time-traveling that you will love.
When We First Met
I have literally loved this movie for the basic principle that is highlighted. The story revolved around Noah who loves a pretty girl, Avery and would love to be with her. However, he is friend-zoned by her and she falls in love with someone else and later marries that guy. Mysteriously, the heartbroken Noah is able to travel back in time to the day when he had first met her.
Noah soon understands and uses the time travel to his advantage to get Avery. However, things still go wrong for him and it leads him to travel back in time again and again to reset the timeline. Finally, he is able to make a timeline where he marries Avery, only to discover later that no one is happy in that timeline and that he has forced things around him.
He travels back again to set everything as it had happened initially and in the process, falls in love with Carrie, Avery’s friend. The moral of the story being, what happens, happens for the best. With the funny touches in the story, the movie has won many hearts when it was released in 2018.
Happy Death Day
This is one of those suspense, thriller movies where you are just too curious to know what happens next. A girl, Tree wakes up one morning and leads her day. The day is special for her as it’s her birthday but she gets murdered. As soon as she gets murdered, the time gets reset and she returns to the same morning when she woke up.
She is shocked about the time-traveling thing and ultimately gets killed multiple times. Then she finally gets prepared to avoid her murder by fighting the murderer and later discovers that it was her roommate who actually wanted her dead all the way. She kills him and hence is able to avoid her death. The movie was released in 2017 and is definitely worth watching.
Avengers may not have anything to do with daily lives, however, the main theme involved in the movie is time travel. After all, how can we not mention Avengers when they deserve it. After facing a defeat from Thanos in the previous movie, Avengers : Infinity Wars, half of the universe gets vanished along with half of the superheroes.
Thanos stops bothering about his life after erasing half of the universe. But how to bring them back now? Well, Time Travel seems like the exact remedy that the heroes need. So they travel back in time to stop Thanos from getting all the five Infinity Stones. The Thanos from the past comes to the future and fights the Avengers. Iron Man loses his life in the process but they prevent Thanos from destroying the universe again.
The movie Arrival is one of those sci-fi movies that leaves you wondering what did you just watch. This movie has featured time travel but not through a time machine. The Star of the movie is Amy Adams who is well known for her role in Superman movies. Being a translator, Louis Banks is asked to help the military by communicating with aliens that have come to earth.
In the process of communicating, she puts her heart and soul into decoding the alien language. The movie keeps on showing flashbacks of Bank’s daughter who is dead. The flashbacks also give us an idea that Bank’s husband had left her.
The plot in the twist comes when Bank is successfully able to understand the alien language and all the flashbacks that we had seen were actually from the future, not the past. This left me stunned for a few moments as to what really happened. However, Banks decides not to change the future and marries Donnelly, her future husband and agrees to have a child with him despite knowing that he would leave and the child would die at a young age.
Happy Death Day 2U
This movie is a sequel to Happy Death Day of 2017. As much as fans had enjoyed the first movie, they were curious to watch the sequel. The loop of dying and coming back to the same morning, shifts on to another character Ryan. We come to know that the loop was formed because of some science projects undertaken by Ryan and his friends.
As seen in the first part’s pattern, Ryan is being murdered by someone and comes back to the same morning. He shares it with his friends Tree and Carter and they manage to catch the killer, only to discover it was another Ryan from some other timeline. The story gets complicated as Ryan tries to switch on the machine(his science project) and resets the time to where we had started in part one of the movies.
Tree is then shown to have reached another parallel universe where the roles of all the characters have changed. In the end, she decides to return to the real universe. The movie has been just fine, except the complicated concept of traveling through a parallel universe and fans might have a hard time wrapping their brains around it. It was released in 2019.
